Each week they do a fun new project, it is both quality time with Grandma and they are developing their talents and fine motor skills.  This week they made Memory Plates, they had SO MUCH FUN making them that I thought I would share the idea with you.  These plates can be uses and washed or just hung on the wall for art.

Sharpie Markers

Pencil and Graphite Transfer Paper

White plate that is oven safe

Rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball

First step is to clean the plate with rubbing alcohol, you want to make sure all the oil is off the plate. Wash your hands too, to take any oils on your hands that might get on the plate while you draw on it.  Once plate is totally dry, trace the pattern you want to make on your plate with a pencil, pattern and Graphite Transfer Paper. Or you can just free hand your art project.  Just letting your kids draw a picture on the plate is a fun idea too. You need to use Sharpie markers, any other markers will not "stick" even if you cure it in the oven.

Once you have drawn your images or artwork onto your plate, you will need to set or "cure"  it in the oven. Place the plate in the oven at 325 degrees for 30 minutes. The colors will change a little during the baking process but this will set them so they won't wash off.  You can put them in the dishwasher, but hand washing is recommended.
